An exhibition of large scale, abstract oil paintings and works on paper by Sandra Dal Poggetto will be on view at Dave Kirk’s Aunt Dofe’s Hall of Recent Memory from July 16 to August 15. An opening reception will be held Friday, July 23, 5-9 pm.
Dal Poggetto’s work combines rich paints with buckskin or luxurious feathers and pelts from game that she hunts. In so doing, she hopes to both honor and challenge the Euro-American tradition of landscape painting giving form to a fresh, and also ancient, awareness of the natural world. A large painting from this body of work is concurrently on view in the sweeping group exhibition, Montana Landscape: The Eye of the Beholder at the Holter Museum of Art.
As Ben Mitchell, Senior Curator at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, has written: “Dal Poggetto is reinterpreting the Western American landscape tradition through stunningly beautiful and deeply surprising means.”
