Emerson exhibits @ July Art Walk

In the Mud Room is an ongoing show featuring high-end and affordable contemporary ceramics by Emerson teachers and staff. Reception Friday, July 8th at 5-8 pm. Exhibit artists are teachers Ryan Mitchell: functional porcelain; Vanessa Rogers: sculptural porcelain vessels; Carl Sheehan: functional high fire stoneware:: Shaila Sorenson: primitive fired hand dug clay; and Emerson staff Ellen Ornitz: porcelain & mixed media sculpture; Mike Weix: terracotta vessel.

In the Lobby is an exhibit of work by Stevi Lynn and Sally Hickman, who will describe their photo transfer and encaustic processes in a gallery talk at 6 pm.

The ongoing show at the Jessie Wilber Gallery is Contemporary Figurative Ceramics.

The Weaver Room Gallery is showing Butte: Common & Private Spaces, an ongoing and collaborative effort between Bozeman photographers Dan Cornish and Ian van Coller. The work is a selection of photographs taken from February 2009 to the present. Ian van Coller is a professor of photography at Montana State University, Bozeman; Daniel Cornish graduated in photography from MSU and is a Butte native.

The Ecce Gallery will hold a reception for A Visual Feast: DeWeese Family Art Show. Talk with artists Tina, Josh, and Gretchen DeWeese starting at 6:30.

Bear Canyon & Beyond: An Exhibition of MSU Ceramic Alumni

The School of Art at Montana State University in Bozeman has had a long tradition of ceramic art beginning with Frances Senska, and her early students Peter Voulkos and Rudy Autio at Montana State College continuing through today in our program at the University. To highlight the School’s role in the development of contemporary ceramic art, Montana State University School of Art and the Helen E. Copeland Gallery invite the public to Bear Canyon & Beyond: An Exhibition of MSU Ceramic Alumni.

The exhibition dates are Monday June 6 – Thursday September 15, 2011, and it is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 9:00AM – 5:00PM.  There will be a closing reception on Thursday September 15 from 6:30-8:30PM.  The Helen E. Copeland Gallery is located within The School of Art’s Haynes Hall, on the second floor.

FeastWare Pottery Sale @ The Emerson

Meet participating artists on opening night, Friday, November 19th, 5-8 pm. The sale will continue through December 23rd. A percentage of the sales will support the Emerson’s ceramics program in the Frances Senska Pottery studio. Participating artists include: Shannon & Dean Adams, Ernest Forward, Katie Brown, Jared Gabriel, David Peters, Josh DeWeese, Rosie Wynkoop, Pat Hoffman, Tyler MacNeal, Gregg Quinn, Matt Piedalue, Chris Bieniek, Liz Sparks, Michael Lentini, Keith Gilyard, Ryan Mitchell, Shaila Sorenson, Carl Sheehan, Joe Geil and others. The work will range from earthenware, stoneware and porcelain, including both oxidation and reduction methods of firing.
