Heisel and Danahy featured at Artists’ Gallery

The Artists’ Gallery in the Emerson is pleased to present new artwork by, Justine Heisel and Anne Danahy, our featured artists for the month of August.  We invite you to meet the artists at a wine and cheese reception on the evening of Friday, August 13th from 5-8 p.m., during Downtown Bozeman’s Art Walk.

Justine Heisel’s exhibit is called Leaf Letters – A Petite Calligraphic  Installation, where she combines beautiful letters with nature’s greenery. Heisel likes to approach each new subject in a different way.  This time the subject is the alphabet.  The approach is playful, colorful, light, and it moves!

Award winning watercolorist, Anne Danahy, discovered silk painting five years ago, and was drawn to the transparent brilliance of color when using dyes and silk. In August, the subtle beauty of her silk scarves and abstract and impressionistic silk paintings will be featured at The Artist’s Gallery in the Emerson.

Justine Heisel and Sarah Angst @ Artists’ Gallery

Justine Heisel and Sarah Angst are featured artists at the Artists’ Gallery in the Emerson for the month of October. The Gallery invites the public to an artist’s reception on Friday, October 10 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.

Justine Heisel will be showing “Landscapes – Near and Far.” (Her “Memory of Galapagos” is shown here.) Heisel works frequently in the “plein aire” style, creating works of art directly from nature. The demands of painting out of doors support Heisel’s ability to create painterly brush strokes and lively color.

Sarah Angst will be showing new work. Angst’s hand-colored linoleum prints are locally and internationally collected and have won many awards. Each image is hand carved, printed and painted in an attempt to emit a calm, comforting sentiment of simple time and a simple way of life.

Bio for Sarah Angst: Sarah Angst grew up in Winnipeg, Canada. She attended the University of Minnesota Duluth and graduated in 2001 with a BFA in Art Education. In 2003 she settled on printmaking as her medium of choice and has since been creating a body of work to exhibit. She now lives in Bozeman.

Angst creates each linoleum block print one at a time. Each image is hand carved, printed and painted in an attempt to emit a calm, comforting sentiment of simple time and a simple way of life. Her prints display the effortless beauty in everyday subject matter. She is drawn to the black outline and loves how it makes every color it contours seem to jump off the page.

Bio for Justine Heisel: Justine Heisel is a contemporary American painter and multimedia artist. She has studied many different disciplines and uses them individually or in combination to produce her art. She lives in Bozeman, surrounded by the mountains that she paints and loves.

Utilizing several media (ink, watercolor, oil, paper, metal, acrylic), she has found that working with one medium can feed an awareness of possibilities to keep in mind for other creations using different mediums. Always exploring the new and incorporating the unknown, Justine’s abstract flowers, scenic nature landscapes and other vivid, inspiring artworks lend beauty and light to any room.
